Weddings

Two gold rings - reflected candlesThe following four steps will tell you how you can get married at St Mary’s or Emmanuel.

1. Come along to Vestry hour at St Mary’s, 6.00pm-7.00pm on Friday evenings. Here the basic details are discussed which will include figuring out if you are eligible to be married at one of our churches.

2. If you are eligible to be married here a date will be provisionally booked, and 3 short meetings with the vicar will be arranged for marriage preparation (this is compulsory).

3. Your ‘Banns of Marriage’ will be read at St Mary’s or Emmanuel on three Sundays in a row. We encourage couples to come to these three services. If one of you lives outside the parish, your banns will also need to be read in your own parish church.

4. You will be able to discuss the order of service with the vicar. There is usually a wedding rehearsal on the evening before the wedding day.

Dedication after a Civil Marriage

For various reasons a couple may decide to have a civil marriage but still want God to be at the centre of their marriage. A dedication after a civil marriage might be appropriate for you. Please contact the Rector to chat about this possibility.
